#24- Back to the Future (1985) review

http://larryfire.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/bttfbonusdvd.jpgOne of the all time greats and a true classic, Back to the Future defines the genre of time travel. Many movies have since attempted to match the brilliance of this film but none have come close to nearing the standards that were set by this film in 1985. Even today, time travel films are tested against Back to the Future.

Michael J Fox plays a young boy named Marty McFly, who is one day sent 30 years into the past through a time travelling DeLorean as he flees from Libyan terrorists. Stranded in 1955, Marty must go on the journey of his life as he has to reunite his parents in order to confirm their existence in the future. The concept to most time travel films is extremely complex or not completely answered and more so, left to one's interpretation. Films such as Terminator 2 pop into mind but Back to the Future doesn't leave any questions hanging and instead, brilliantly ties everything up in the end. That credit goes to the story telling and fantastic writing.

Michael J. Fox and Christopher Llyod have such amazing chemistry that every moment spent between their characters feels entirely like a fatherly-son relationship, and to that, add Marty's father, Back to the Future is just amazingly acted!

Back to the Future is the perfect example that to be a great Sci-Fi film, amazing special effects aren't needed. Think about it, Star Wars, Terminator 2, Aliens, The Matrix, Inception and so on, are amazing films but do not rely on special effects at all. One of the best things about the film is the musical score played throughout the entertaining scenes throughout the film such as when Marty is escaping from Biff! It is definitely one of the most kickass soundtracks of all time! So kickass, that it makes anything feel epic!

1985 brought to us one of the greatest films of all time and a complete Sci-Fi masterpiece. It perfected the concept on time travel like no film before and even, no film to this day. Even after all these years, Back to the Future still looks more than convincing, is as exciting as ever before and is just a perfect popcorn flick! Those who claim to be movie fans that haven't seen Back to the Future aren't indeed movie fans, it is not a legit statement!
